It's been a while

Yes. I know I said I'd like to keep updated pretty regular. Well somethings have been going on and I'm super busy. For those who haven't heard, I am now officially assisting DC super inker, Jonathan Glapion. Jonathan has been Philip Tan's inker for years and has recently started inking Greg Capullo on Haunt. Needless to say, I'm honored for the chance and I'm super greatful to Jonathan for giving me the chance to learn from him.

So that's what's been going on. I hope to update more often as I get used to the hectic schedule. Until then.

Couple of Updates

Ok so I know there's been a bit of a delay but I'm back with some updates. The main update is that I have signed on to do a couple projects for Advent Comics. I will be coming on as up and coming penciling phenom Dody Eka's inker. I'm super excited to join the crew and I can't wait to get started. Below is an inking sample I did for Advent over Dody's pencils. This piece is a pin up of the Alliance of Evil from Advent Comics.

Next is a piece that I inked for my portfolio by amazing DC penciler Lee Garbett. I Lee was kind enough to let me use this piece for my portfolio and this was the result. I've still got to do some reverse inking on it but other than that, this is the finished piece. Unfortunately, the pencil file I used for this is so large that I can't upload it without shrinking the file and I don't have time right now to do that. When I get a chance, I'll do it and upload them for everyone to see.

How About Some Manga?

Here are the sample pages I did for TokyoPop. This is the first time I've ever attempted to ink manga. I could see doing a lot more of this in the future. These pages presented some new challenges which were fun to take on. After inking on them a bit, I realized a much more efficient way to work on this style and suddenly it became a lot of fun. So without further ado'.

As many of you will notice, I've kind of hit the reset button on the blog. Why? Simple, I'm going to use it as my portfolio for a bit. Luckily, that means new work all the time since I ink a page everyday. Hey, hard work and practice make winners. So here we go...

Quick Warm Up

Here's a quick warm-up I did one day before starting inking. I often like to do these since they help my drawing chops. They also help loosen the forearm muscles as well as get blood flowing into your hands. I've found that my inking is greatly improved when I do a warm-up.

This is from a reference photo I took of a great friend of mine and a beautiful woman named Laura Siruchek. I had the picture up on the screen and I started with a colored pencil and watercolor paper. I think it took me around 30-45 minutes to do. As you can see, the point is to do a loose interpretation of the reference and catch the likeness but not make are refined, tight drawing.

Finally Back

Ok finally I'm back. Being one who hates artists that don't post on a regular basis, I am now able to say that I plan to remedy that situation here. Starting on Monday I will begin posting different pieces of art as well as techniques and other cool little tips and tricks.

Oh almost forgot. Here's a Tinkerbell commission I did for a friends daughter to hold you over till Monday. Sorry for the glare. The piece was already framed when I remembered to take a quick picture of it. So imagine it without the glare and not taken by a camera phone and you'll see how bad ass it is.
